Lisa will be presenting her talk titled: “Supporting Self-Regulation, Joy, and Independence through Intentional Teaching: A Complementary Curriculum Approach” on October 14, 2023.
This hands-on, interactive workshop introduces participants to concrete ways to develop a settled, joyful classroom. You will learn about four key intentions that can transform your practice. 1) Compelling Materials: how teachers design and provision the classroom with materials, 2) Explicit Presentations: intentional modeling and teacher as a supportive guide, 3) Responsive Scaffolding: interactions and supportive moves that build and expand children’s experiences, and 4) Following Children’s Interests: preparing to teaching ways that support child-leg learning driven by long term projects. Participants will learn practical strategies for offering both clean guidance and open-ended discovery experiences, and how to support children’s sense of independence and communal responsibility.
